Kabir Sheikh18 Nov 2021 - 20:11

Gingins U13s finished runners up in the round robin indoor tournament winning 3 matches and losing a closely fought encounter to winners Zurich CC

Gingins hosted their traditional indoor tournament after a year's gap (due to the pandemic). A team from Luxembourg joined Swiss teams Zurich, Basel and Gingins, and a combined GRYCC-Cossonay team and the tournament saw several strong contests in a six-team round robin format over two days.

On day 1, Gingins defeated Luxembourg with room to spare with Anhad's dominant 46*(26 balls, 2 sixes and 3 fours) and Samanyu's 22 contributing to a handsome team total of 176/9. Sachin picked up three wickets for Luxembourg. Sean (32*) and Andrew (27) steered the chase but Luxembourg fell 29 runs short of the target. Samanyu took 2-26 for Gingins, and a physics-defying run out by Rohan drew gasps from the parents in the gallery.

In Gingins' second game rivals Zurich started strong putting up a total of 163/6 in their 18 overs. Fynn (31*) and Vedant (26), and the score could have been higher but for two brilliant runouts by Jean-Magnus and two wickets by Samanyu. Anhad continued his big hitting form with 30*(12) and Aaditya and Samanyu came to the party with matching scores of 22, but the Gingins chase fell agonizingly short by six runs.

Day 2 started with a close win against a combined GRYCC-Cossonay team. Anikait (26) Radley (25) and Jhonti (24) top scored out of the visitors' 138/5. Aadi led the Gingins batting response with an unbeaten 22. Jhonti took 2-18 for GRYCC/Cossonay, but Gingins reached the target in the last over.

In the final game against Basel, Gingins racked up 172 batting first. Mr consistent Samanyu top scored with 30* followed by Anhad (19) and Ayaan (16). Surya took three wickets for Basel. Basel's chase fell short by 38 runs, with only Nihanth (24) putting up serious resistance. Anhad took 3-15 and Ayaan 2-15, but the highlight was a remarkable team fielding performance including stunning catches by Sebastian and Ayaan, and runouts by Kai, Samanyu and Ananya.
